GIFT BUYING ... So, you've been invited to a wedding. Wether you attend or not, you are required by law (wedding law etiquette that is), to buy the blissful couple a gift. Why not rummage through the back of the closet and give them that hotplate your aunt Hilda gave you three Christmases ago. You know, the one that was never used (don't tell me you haven't given away previously unopened gifts you received). There is a better way. Group Buying Power You don't necessarily have to purchase that wedding gift all by your lonesome. Why not get together with other friends, relatives, or acquaintances also involved with the wedding, and "pool" your resources. A whole new selection of gifts are now attainable. If no one in your group is well acquainted with the bride or groom, talk to someone who is. Find out their tastes, likes, and dislikes. When spending Big Bucks, it's wise to give a gift they'll enjoy, and not something they already have. Reliable Choices Most couples enjoy receiving a large screen TV, or a great sounding stereo system. Furniture is a popular choice, as long as you're aware of the couples tastes. In this high tech world, why not purchase a personal computer system (which are now surprising low in price) with all the bells and whistles. Now for the big Stuff If you have a very large group, or there's a millionaire or two involved, why not purchase an exotic vacation, or a cruise for two (Honeymoon Registry, anyone?). I understand people have even bought cars and houses for the wedding pair. I've only heard or read this, not actually witnessed it. All I can say is the couple must have been some deserving. Honeymoon Registry Why not get together with your family and friends to help pay for the honeymoon of their dreams? At many Travel Agencies couples can register their honeymoon and have family and friends help pay for it. You and/or your group can purchase a gift certificate for any amount you choose, which can be applied towards the couples honeymoon. Bottom Line The Bottom line is, you really can increase your buying power big time, and buy some mighty nice gifts, by "revenue grouping". Just make sure to do some research on the wedding couples tastes. Now, where did I put that hotplate. by T.W.P. |
