WEDDING BLAST FROM THE PAST ... from "The Canadian Magazine" 1971 APR 24
(NOTE: We recently came across this magazine on an online auction site, and bought it for 1 dollar )

LOCAL GIRL MARRIES OTTAWA MAN
It was, as they sometimes say in women's pages, a Wedding of Note.

Six foot high flowers stand carrying daffodils, tulips, daisies and pussy willows at either end of the altar set a springlike mood in St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church recently where a quiet wedding was solemnized when vows were exchanged by Pierre Elliot Trudeau, son of Mrs. Charles-Emile Trudeau and the late Mr. Trudeau of Montreal, and Margaret Sinclair, fourth daughter of the Hon. and Mrs. James Sinclair of 1102 Highland.
Rev John Swinkels officiated at the wedding mass in the contemporary-style church, nestled at the foot of the slopes in the Lynn Valley.

The Bride was an absolute smash(you should take pride in finding different synonyms for radiant - I have been saving "absolute smash" for a very special wedding) in a Moroccan caftan-style robe she had made herself during a two week sewing course at Elegance International on Seymour Street in Vancouver. The hood of the floor length, white wool garment trimmed in white satin framed the bride's dark red curls which were garlanded with daisies. the yellow centred and white-petalled spring flowers were also featured in the bride's bouquet.

The bridesmaid, Rosalind, sister of the bride, was likewise attired in a floor length hooded garment which city papers insisted on calling a caftan although it was fitted.(Anyone should know that a caftan is a long, flowing robe with a hood, worn as a coat in some eastern countries. Being fitted at the waistline, the bride's and bridesmaid's dresses are therefore better described as caftan-like, not caftans.)

The mother of the bride wore what she herself said was "just a dress." Pressed by your correspondent, she conceded that it was more of a suit than a dress, it having two pieces. Both pieces were blue. Dark blue, the mother of the bride said, not sky blue, as some said.

The groom turned up in a morning coat, striped pants and silver tie. The groom's attendant was his brother, Mr. Charles Trudeau of Montreal, who wore a lounge suit that some described as resembling corduroy, but which a consensus of writers afterwards agreed was probably worsted or, at very least, a combination of wool and Fortrel. The men each wore matching daisies, in keeping with the bride's floral motif.

Following the brief, exquisitely simple ceremony, the principles and members of their immediate families repaired to the Capilano Country Club for a wedding dinner. The bride's brother-in-law, Mr. Thomas Walker, a former player for the British Columbia Lions professional football team, proposed a champagne toast(1964 heidsieck, extra dry).

The couple then left for a brief skiing honeymoon at Whistler Mountain before journeying to Ottawa, where they intend to reside.
