Wedding Reception Planning

Once you have set the date, the next big step is finding the best reception location that suits your style.

Budget Before you starting search for your reception location, make sure you have set a budget and know your limits for the location, catering, decorations, entertainment and beverage options.

Know the number of guests Most reception venues charge "by the head", so make sure to have a slightly inflated total for everyone that will be attending the reception (include the wedding party, photographer, dj, officiant, etc) Even if you have cancellations before the actual event, it will give the manager of the location a good idea of the size of the hall that will be required.

Things to look for. Check the reputation (ask friends and family, search online, look at local wedding magazines). Make sure the location and the venue is safe (with the proper number of exits). Check area parking availability and restrictions. Be sure to have a complete tour to view the cleanliness of the hall, bathroom and kitchen. Make sure the room has good lighting for photos.

Package deals Look at all package deals offered by the reception venues. When you find the perfect spot for your reception, you'll be requested to put down a down payment. In many cases it's a percentage of the perceived final bill. This will secure your wedding date.

Always Ask for References Who better to talk to than past clients of wedding vendors.
